Core value of the month: Hard work

PRINCIPAL’S MESSAGE

Dear Monta Loma Families,

As we enter the last weeks of the 2019-20 school year, our thoughts turn to next school year. This year in particular, we look ahead with many questions, but with much confidence and optimism that our community has all the heart and brain power we need to inspire, prepare, and empower our students.

Staffing Updates

We will bid fond farewells to some of our staff at the end of this year as they move on to new life adventures. Ms. Bleick, Mr. Harris, Ms. Kwon, and Mrs. Mai will bring their talents to other schools in our district. We are grateful they will not be too far from us. Ms. Chen will be taking a leave with her new baby. We thank each of these Monta Loma family members for the joy they brought to our school.

We are very pleased to welcome Kaitlyn Yost as our Instructional Coach. Kaitlyn joins us from Theuerkauf where she has been teaching for several years.

Monta Loma will also have some familiar faces in new places next year. We’re excited to have Mrs. Gunshor teaching 2nd grade and Mr. Ares teaching 3rd grade. We know they will do great work in these new roles. We will be welcoming a new School Psychologist, a new Ed Specialist in room 9 and a new At-Risk Supervisor next year as well. I will keep you posted when hiring is completed.

Based on our enrollment we are currently planning on the following classroom configurations for next year. Enrollment continues through the summer, so it is possible that this can change. I continue to monitor enrollment and staffing throughout the summer. Stay tuned for details.

  • One K-2nd SDC class

  • Two K classes

  • Two 1st Grade classes

  • Two 2nd Grade classes

  • One 3rd-5th Grade SDC class

  • Two 3rd Grade classes

  • Two 4th Grade classes

  • Two 5th Grade classes

Reopening planning

In this video, Dr. Rudolph presents the planning process for how MVWSD is preparing to reopen. There are many unknowns about the future, but we are working to be flexible and adaptable for the benefit of our students, whatever the status of COVID-19 may be.

Last week of school schedule

Thank you for your support during remote learning since COVID-19 school closure. The final weeks of the 2019–20 school year look a little different as we wrap up the school year and celebrate all the work we and our students have accomplished.

For the Week of June 1, teachers will post the week’s instruction agenda on Friday, May 29th. That week will be modified to allow for end-of-year work and activities. Teachers will not hold office hours during the week of June 1st.

Teachers will schedule a Zoom end of year celebration check-in sometime Monday through Wednesday.  The Reclassification Celebration and 5th Grade Promotion video viewing will be on Thursday. Parents will be sent a link for viewing.

Report Cards

Due to COVID-19 school closure beginning on March 18, 2020 and per direction of the MVWSD Board of Trustees, students will not be given grades for the last trimester of the 2019-20 school year. However, parents will receive a report on June 5 by email with short comments from teachers and information about children’s participation in online learning.

In partnership,

Gloria

Food Benefits (Flyer here)

Due to Coronavirus (COVID-19), children who are eligible for free or reduced-price meals at school will get extra food benefits. These food benefits are called Pandemic EBT or P-EBT benefits. P-EBT benefits help families in California buy food when schools are closed because of the coronavirus emergency.

Families will get up to $365 per eligible child on their P-EBT card to use on food and groceries. Families with children who get CalFresh, Medi-Cal or Foster Care benefits do not need to apply. Most will get their P-EBT card in the mail during the month of May. P-EBT cards will begin arriving sometime this month (May).

Families with children who are eligible for free or reduced-price meals and who do not get their P-EBT card in the mail, must apply online before June 30, 2020. The online application will launch in late May. https://www.cdss.ca.gov/home/pandemic-ebt
