Core value of the month: Courage

PRINCIPAL’S MESSAGE

Dear Monta Loma Families,

State Assessments

Our window for state assessments is now open. Monta Loma is ready to show what we know! Parents often ask what they can do to help students do their best on assessments. And if you think about it, these practices are important for students every day, not just for assessments.

  • Make sure that your student attends school regularly. The more students are in school, the more likely they will do well on assessments.
  • Make sure your child gets enough sleep. The American Academy of Pediatrics recommends 9 to 12 hours of sleep for elementary aged students.
  • Make sure students get proper nutrition. Brains need energy from food to work effectively. A balanced diet with protein, carbs, and fats is important for student success.

Students in 3rd through 5th grade will be assessed in English Language Arts and Math. Students in 5th grade will also take a Science assessment.

Believe it or not, the simplest steps make a big difference.

Thanks for your partnership,

Site Council Elections

Site Council is a vital contributor to the work of our school, providing guidance and approving our school site plan. Now is the time to consider running for Site Council. Interested parents or guardians should contact Glenn Bates at to express interest or ask questions.

SCHOOL NEWS

Word of the Week

Compose:To compose is to put together or make. Students are often asked to compose tens, which makes mental math much easier. They might also see other forms of the word like composition. Stay tuned for the antonym coming up as the word of the week soon.

The PTA is changing up our menu for our annual WAT this year and we could
use your help. Volunteers for the day of the event will be needed to help
collect tickets and hand out food platters, drinks and snacks. We'll also
need a few volunteers to assist in food prep a day or so beforehand. We
realize not everyone can provide their time but still want to contribute
and there is another way! We are also accepting donations of Safeway or
Costco gift cards to assist in our food purchases.

Please contact Chenoa Trout, our WAT food chair, if you are interested in
volunteering or donating!
Chenoa.trout@gmail.com, cell 650.776.8052
Please drop donations in the PTA box at the front office with WAT written on it.
Remember, all donations for our school are tax deductible and your PTA will
gladly provide you with a receipt upon request.

Get excited, do what you can to help and come to our annual event *HUNGRY*,
it's going to be awesome!!
