Core value of the month: Respect

PRINCIPAL’S MESSAGE

Dear Monta Loma Families,

This Friday marks the end of the 2nd trimester. Students have been working hard all year. Teachers are preparing report cards to go home in early March. We are excited to share your student’s progress.

While it may seem like a long time way, our testing window for California State Standardized Tests (CAASPP) tests for 3rd through 5th graders is approaching. Our window for assessments this year is between April 22nd and May 24th.

Please mark these dates in your calendar so you can avoid any unnecessary absences.

Parents often ask what they can do to help students do their best on assessments. Believe it or not, the simplest steps can make a big difference. And if you think about it, these practices are important for students every day, not just testing.

  • Make sure that your student attends school regularly. The more students are in school, the more likely they will do well on assessments.

  • Make sure your child gets enough sleep. The American Academy of Pediatrics recommends 9 to 12 hours of sleep for elementary aged students.

  • Make sure students get proper nutrition. Brains need energy from food to work effectively. A balanced diet with protein, carbs, and fats is important for student success.

  • Emphasize the importance of doing your best.

In partnership,

Gloria

Safety Video

We take the safety of your child seriously, and that includes teaching students about how to be safe in a range of situations. While we wish we didn’t have to, the reality is that just as we practice for earthquakes and fires, MVWSD needs to provide training for students on what they should do in the event of a dangerous intruder or similar event on campus.

On Friday, February 15th, all classrooms at Monta Loma will show a brief video which you can preview here. You can also visit mvwsd.org/safety for more information.

Thank you to those that have already taken the LCAP survey. As of now only 23 parents from Monta Loma school have completed the survey.  Please take a few minutes to complete the survey before March 1st using the link below.
