Core value of the month: Compassion

Dear Monta Loma Families,

The Value of PTA

Did you know that PTA’s mission is to make every child’s potential a reality by engaging and empowering families and communities to advocate for all children? At last Friday’s PTA meeting, many parents enthusiastically committed to this mission by volunteering to serve in leadership roles in our PTA. Please join me in thanking our newly elected PTA Board. You’ll notice there are a few opportunities still open. Don’t be intimidated by the titles. While the roles are crucial, they can often be done at home and in minimal time. If you are interested, you can contact Shanna Bengtson at

Hello Leopard Volunteers,

The Monta Loma Open House event is happening on Thursday, March 29, 2018. Each student will have two pieces of their artwork displayed for the art show from 6:00-7:30 pm in the school library. This involves an enormous amount of work to prepare and set up. I need parent volunteers like you to help me!

~One parent volunteer from each room to mount and label art. Each student will have two pieces of artwork that will need to be mounted on construction paper and labeled. Instructions will be provided. The pile of artwork, prepared labels, glue sticks, prepared construction paper can be picked up in the office from Dafne, the secretary, anytime the office is open.  Please contact me via email to arrange pick up and drop off that works with your schedule. All action items must be completed no later than March 23rd.

~One parent volunteer from each room to take home a pile of art to sort and file into large plastic sleeves, label each sleeve with student’s name. Instructions, Sharpies, artwork from approximately nine lessons, plastic sleeves can be picked up by arranging a time that works with your schedule. All action items to be completed by March 28th.

~One or more volunteers from each room to help arrange, staple and hang prepared artwork onto black display boards, tables in the school library between 8:30 am-3:00 pm preferably on Wednesday, March 28 pm  or until all boards are completed and Thursday, March 29 from 8:30-12:30. Coffee and snack bars will be provided.

ThoughtExchange opens on Feb. 28: New school name and principal attributes

In 2015, the Mountain View Whisman School District Board of Trustees voted to open a neighborhood school next to the former Slater Elementary. The District soon will begin construction on a new school on N. Whisman Rd. This new school will open in August 2019 for grades kindergarten through 5.

As we prepare to open this new school, we want to hear your opinions about the important attributes and contributions of the potential person/namesake for this new school, as well as the traits of its new principal.

Look for a link in your email on Feb. 28 to join the ThoughtExchange conversation or visit this link  to join in before March 16.

MVWSD now offers part-day and full-day preschool classes with free, low cost and full fee-based options depending on family income. The preschool will begin accepting applications for the full-day classroom on March 12th.  Please see the attached flyer. Applications and additional information are available at or at the Preschool Office: Castro School (Rm. 36),  (650) 526-3500 ext. 1844.

MVEF needs your feedback! Please consider taking the survey below to share with MVEF your thoughts on the programs they fund, and how they communicate with you. The survey should not take more than a few minutes to complete and all results are compiled anonymously. MVEF will use the results to improve their communication with the community and ensure their funding has a high impact on education in our district. Thank you! Please complete the survey by March 24th.
