Core value of the month: Compassion

Dear Monta Loma Families,

The World Right Here at Monta Loma

Last Friday, we were reminded how truly special the Monta Loma community is. As Congresswoman Eshoo noted during the NASA downlink assembly, we have the world right here. Time and again, our staff, students, and families go beyond learning and working side by side to learning and working together with care and support for each other.

It makes me proud.

Many people worked together to bring this amazing experience to our students. Sean Dechter, one of our fourth grade teachers, and Lisa Lockyer, one of our parents deserve our great thanks for coordinating the effort and doing the bulk of the hard work. I also want to recognize and thank our tech support team Cihan Ozturk and Dau Tran.

In case you missed it, you can see video of the NASA downlink assembly on YouTube at

If you’re on Twitter or Facebook, you can check out the Monta Loma accounts:

In partnership,

Word of the Week

Apparent. Apparent means visibly or clearly understood. Sometimes students might confuse it with “a parent” but they can use context clues to distinguish between the two, especially by thinking about whether the word is being used as a noun or as an adjective. A parent is a noun. Apparent is an adjective.

ThoughtExchange opens on Feb. 28: New school name and principal attributes

In 2015, the Mountain View Whisman School District Board of Trustees voted to open a neighborhood school next to the former Slater Elementary. The District soon will begin construction on a new school on N. Whisman Rd. This new school will open in August 2019 for grades kindergarten through 5.

As we prepare to open this new school, we want to hear your opinions about the important attributes and contributions of the potential person/namesake for this new school, as well as the traits of its new principal.

Look for a link in your email on Feb. 28 to join the ThoughtExchange conversation or visit this link  to join in before March 16.
