Core value of the month: Respect

PRINCIPAL’S MESSAGE

Dear Monta Loma Families,

I’d like to take a moment to appreciate the contributions of our School Site Council to our success. School Site Council is made up of parents or guardians and staff. It provides guidance through the development, approval, and monitoring of our school site plan. This year, our School Site Council Representatives are Glenn Bates, Sarah Dodson, Brad Dux, Kerri Neschleba, Sarah Wu, Rachel Fetroe, Jessica, Rodriguez, Lisset Tellez, and Christina Valentine. Please join me in extending deep gratitude for their time and partnership. Their commitment ensures our students have a wonderful experience every day.

Now is the time for parents or guardians to consider running as a representative on School Site Council for the 2019-2020 school year. Anyone interested should contact me at ghiggins@mvwsd.org or stop by the office for questions or information. The deadline to express interest in a position is April 30, 2019. If more than five parents or guardians express interest, we will hold an election.

In partnership,

Gloria

NEWS FROM THE DISTRICT OFFICE

From the County: Measles notice

On March 26, the County of Santa Clara Public Health Department confirmed one case of measles in an international traveler visiting the county. Individuals who are not immune to measles AND who visited certain sites may be at risk of developing measles due to exposure.

Santa Clara County benefits from very high rates of vaccination against measles. Most people received two doses of measles vaccine (“MMR vaccine”) as children and are protected. However, parents of unvaccinated children, unvaccinated adults, and those with weakened immune systems are advised to review the list of sites and times individuals may have been exposed below. Children at risk may include infants who are too young to receive the vaccine, children who cannot receive measles vaccine due to weakened immune system (for example, due to organ transplant or chemotherapy), or other unvaccinated children.

For a list of exposure sites and more information, visit https://www.sccgov.org/sites/phd/news/Pages/measles-3-26-19.aspx. If you have concerns or questions about your or your child's health, please contact your healthcare provider.

New, updated District calendar

Please click here for the updated 2019-20 District calendar. This version, with the approval date of March 21, 2019 at the bottom, aligns spring break with Mountain View-Los Altos Union High School District and eliminates a recess day initially planned for October.

The Mountain View Educational Foundation is currently seeking new board member candidates. MVEF has an annual goal to raise $750,000 to fund Community School of Music and Art art and music lessons, Living Classroom, environmental science field trips for every 4th, 5th and 6th grader, musical instruments, middle school athletics, science materials and more. MVEF is a volunteer-driven organization managed by a Board of Directors and supported by volunteers at each school site.  Our Board of Directors includes dedicated community members and district parents. Board members attend monthly meetings, act as ambassadors for MVEF within our schools and community and help fundraise. For more information click here or contact Karen Heitkamp at Karen@mvef.org

what students need to know and how to prepare for the changed landscape of college and employment recruiting.
