SCHOOL NEWS

Word of the Week

Previousmeans coming before. This one has an interesting Latin root. Pre- means before of course, and vious has the root vi- which means way. So Previous literally means the way before. We use it in math for sequencing or solving multi step or two part problems.

The Student Council is hosting the first Monta Loma Talent Show in our new Multi!   If your child has a talent that they would like to share please let us know by filling out the attached permission slip. They may perform as an individual or as a group. Each performance will last 3-4 minutes. This is not a competition, but a chance to share your skills. Show us what you've got, Leopards!

Permissions slips are due to your child's teacher before Friday, May 18th.  Please find them on the Flyers section at the end of this newsletter.

Dear Families and Friends of Monta Loma Elementary School,

Our school is participating in collecting pennies, nickels, dimes, quarters (and even dollars!) to help support Magical Bridge Playground Mountain View at Rengstorff Park from May 7-18, 2018http://magicalbridge.org/mtnview

Magical Bridge is a playground for children and adults of all abilities and disabilities, including those with physical and cognitive disabilities, autism, hearing and visual impairments, those with sensory challenges, and even our aging population.

The funds collected during our coin drive will go directly to fund this community project.  The grade that collects the most funds will "win" a private playdate at Magical Bridge Playground Mountain View a week before it opens to the public!

Giving is Magical!!!

If so inspired by this project, please consider making an contribution (in any amount) through our dedicated donation page online here: www.magicalbridge.org/montaloma

When making a donation, kindly note what grade your child attends, so they can receive "credit" for this tax deductible donation.  Donations of $300 or above will be recognized with a tile on the donor wall inside the new playground.

It is CSMA Concert season at our elementary schools! Thanks to donations from parents and community members, the Mountain View Educational Foundation is able to fund in-class music lessons led by Community School of Music and Arts (CSMA) music teachers at every elementary school. A 5th-grade teacher had this to say about the program, “The music program helps build confidence, responsibility, and is a great part of our curriculum. The music teachers are knowledgeable, passionate, and they have consistently inspired many students to continue to play their instruments.”  Thank you, donors, for your generosity and support. You can learn more and make a donation at mvef.org. Let the music play!
