Core value of the month: Hard Work

PRINCIPAL’S MESSAGE

Dear Monta Loma Families,

One of our site plan goals is to increase our attendance to rate to 97%.

You can help us meet our goal by making sure your student is at school on time every day unless they are sick. Here are a few tips that may help you.

  • Let your child know that you think attending school daily is important.

  • Give yourself and children enough time to get ready. No TV on school mornings

  • Plan ahead the night before by having kids choose clothes and shoes and pack their backpacks.

  • Set a regular bedtime schedule.

  • Have a back-up plan for traffic or car trouble.

  • Plan your family vacations and appointments during school breaks.

Together we can ensure your student gets the full benefit of education by being at school every day.

In partnership,

Gloria

PTA NEWS

Movie Night Volunteers Request

Monta Loma's last movie night of the year is this Friday, May 3rd from 5:30-8pm.  The PTA is counting on the 1st and 2nd grade families to help run the event. I know you have been asked by your teachers for help, so this may be repetitive, but with only 4 volunteers as of today, we will not be able to offer the event on Friday.

This is a super fun event that helps raise money for our teachers and the school.  If you can offer an hour of your time to help with set up or selling concessions, we would really appreciate it.  If we don't get enough volunteers by Wednesday afternoon, the PTA will have to cancel the event.

I have attached the google doc for volunteer sign-ups here, please do try to join me in running this fun event.

On-campus before- and after school care programs registering students now

We know that finding reliable, high-quality, affordable childcare is a challenge for many of our families and staff members. Increasing these offerings at our schools to meet demand has been a priority for MVWSD. On campus, our schools host several long-standing programs -- Beyond the Bell and the YMCA Silicon Valley Before and Aftercare --  in addition to a new one planned to open this fall, Right at School.

Right at School (flyer here) is a fee-based, nationally-recognized before- an after school program held every day that school is in session, from 6:30 AM until 6 PM, plus drop-in and school break care. It is planned for all MVWSD schools, including middle schools and the new Jose Antonio Vargas Elementary. Right at School presents experiential two-week science enrichment curriculum units, such as “Icky Experiments,” “Page to Stage,” and “Young Detectives.” The program incorporates physical movement, outdoor time and homework completion. It offers 10% sibling discount, 25% discount for free and reduced lunch families and flexible 1, 2, 3, 4, and 5 day pricing options.

A parent information meeting for the new Right at School program has been scheduled at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday, May 7 in the Graham Middle School multi-use room (1175 Castro St.).  This meeting will help answer any questions you have about the program.  The meeting is not mandatory. You may also go to www.rightatschool.com for registration and this webpage for information and fees.

MVEF, together with numerous educational foundations throughout the Bay Area, is recognizing May 9th as a day to Stand Up for Public Schools.  Our public schools are integral to the development of our future leaders and citizens, and their excellence is dependent on every child, at every school, having access to a competitive, well-rounded education.

If you have not donated this school year to MVEF, please consider doing so today.  Your child has access to art, music, science, field trips, athletics and more thanks to parents like you who generously donate.  CodeRev has committed to matching $1000 for first-time donations this May. Help us reach our annual goal to raise $750,0000 to get this matching donation, and support your child and every child. Mvef.org/donate.
