Core value of the month: Respect
PRINCIPAL’S MESSAGE
Dear Monta Loma Families
We’ve had a fantastic few days at school. Thank you for your participation and engagement in our social and informational events.
Monta Loma follows the Project Cornerstone Developmental Assets Program. September’s Asset of the Month is Parent/Guardian Involvement in Schooling. Research shows that youth whose parents are actively involved in their schooling are more engaged in school, less likely to drop out, and more likely to achieve at high levels. Studies also show that parent involvement reduces achievement gaps for students with fewer resources.
There are so many ways you can be involved in your student’s education. Here are just a few ways we encourage parents to get involved at Monta Loma.
-
Become a Project Cornerstone reader. Visit a classroom once a month to share a book and activity that teaches about social emotional skills.
-
Chaperone on field trips.
-
Serve on a parent leadership group. Our English Learner Advisory Committee (ELAC), School Site Council (SSC), and PTA are vital supports for our school. We are especially looking for ELAC members and one SSCl member. See the office for details.
-
Make sure students have a place to do homework and get a good night’s sleep.
-
Volunteer in class or at home to prepare materials for teachers.
Families are the first and most important teachers. Thank you for all you do.
In partnership,
Gloria Higgins
Principal, Monta Loma Elementary School

CAASPP Student Reports

MVEF cannot wait to welcome you back at our District’s back to school nights. Look for our brochures at your child’s elementary schools and take a moment to learn how MVEF funds the art and music in your child’s classroom and read about the amazing field trips your 4th and 5th graders will experience. MVEF also funds science labs and instruments at the elementary schools. At Graham and Crittenden’s back to school night, you can find our brochure in your child’s first period class. Learn how we fund after school sports at our middle schools, including transportation, coaches and referees. We also support science labs, electives, musical instruments, and fund an environmental science field trip for every 6th grader. MVEF needs to raise $800,00 this school year. We cannot do it without your donations. Make your tax-deductible donation today at mvef.org/donate.

CSMA Art Club
Join us for a 12-week fall art club session where we will explore the theme: The Art of Food. Students will paint, draw and build with support and instruction from CSMA faculty. Teachers develop a new curriculum with each new session. This session we will explore the many ways that food is connected to art. We will look at artists that use food as a medium or theme in their artwork and create projects based on these.
