Dear Families,

It is with great excitement that I write to you to welcome you to the 2009-2010 school year at Monta Loma Elementary School. Last year parents, teachers, and I spent many hours working together to enhance and expand the CEL program school-wide. As we move into this new school year, there are many exciting changes to look forward to including:

  • our new enhancement and differentiation plan designed to meet the needs of each child
  • new core values and focus on school and classroom climate
  • a renewed effort and expectation that all families will be involved and contribute to our school community
  • a new, improved website, and much, much more!

I am pleased to welcome new and returning teachers to our school this year. Mrs. Trisha Willis will be joining the first grade team as a job share partner with Mrs. Lisa Schertler. Mrs. Rachel Fetroe and Mr. Brian Rios will be joining our second grade team. In third grade we welcome Mr. Eduardo Rubio.  In 4th grade Mrs. Adelyn Bonner-Lyon and a teacher still to be hired will be joining Mrs. Emily Del Conte. I feel so fortunate to have such a strong and supportive staff committed to challenging each student to reach his or her academic and social potential.

The first day of school is Tuesday, August 25th. School begins at 8:20 a.m. There is a Back-to-School welcoming coffee scheduled for parents on the first day of school. Please join us at 8:30 a.m. on August 25th in the multipurpose room at Monta Loma. This year, due to changes with the bus schedule, there has been a change to the Kindergarten schedule. All Kindergarten students will stay until 1:50 beginning the first day of school. Kindergarten students will eat lunch at school beginning the first day. This is a change from last year. If you have any questions regarding this schedule change, please contact the school office.

Your first opportunity to learn about the exciting changes for the 09/10 school year is on Friday, August 21st at 4:00. We will be having our second annual Lemonade Social. This is a wonderful event for you and your child(ren) to come and meet or reconnect with other Monta Loma families and learn about all of the exciting things planned for the new school year. Additionally, packets will be available that describe the new changes in more detail. Spanish Interpreters will be available. This is also the time when your child(ren) can meet his/her teacher for the upcoming school year. Class lists will be posted during this event and then will hang on the windows of the community room in the front of the school. Please know that the development of class lists was a collaborative effort (principal/teacher/parent information) with the best interest of all students taken under consideration.

The Monta Loma staff and I are looking forward to the 2009-2010 school year and the opportunity to work with all of you.

Estimadas Familias,

Es con gran entusiasmo que le escribo para darles la bienvenida al año escolar de 2009-2010 en la Escuela Monta Loma. El año pasado padres, maestros y yo trabajamos muchas horas juntos para ampliar el programa CEL por toda la escuela. Al entrar en este nuevo año escolar, hay muchos cambios emocionantes que incluyen:

  • nuestro nuevo plan ampliado de diferenciación diseñado a cumplir con las necesidades de cada niño
  • nuevos valores principales y enfoque en nuestra escuela y clima de aula
  • un esfuerzo renovado y la expectativa que todas las familias participaran y contibuiran a nuestra comunidad escolar
  • un nuevo y mejorado sitio Web, y mucho, mucho más!

Estoy contento en dar la bienvenida a nuevos maestros y nuestros maestros que regresaran a nuestra escuela este año. La Sra Trisha Willis se afiliará al equipo de primer grado y estara compartiendo el trabajo con la Sra. Lisa Schertler en su aula. La Sra Rachel Fetroe y Sr. Brian Rios se afiliarán a nuestro equipo de segundo grado. En el tercer grado damos la bienvenida a Sr. Eduardo Rubio. En el 4o grado la Sra Adelyn Bonner-Lyon y un maestro aun para ser contratado completaran el equipo junto con la maestra Emily Del Conte. Me siento tan afortunado de tener un personal tan fuerte y apoyador cometido al desafío de cada estudiante para alcanzar su potencial académico y social.

El primer día de la escuela es el martes, 25 de agosto. La escuela comienza a las 8:20 a.m. Habra un evento de bienvenida programado para todo los padres por la mañana el primer día de escuela. Por favor unase con nosotros a las 8:30a.m. el 25 de agosto en el cuarto multiuso en Monta Loma. Este año, debido a cambios en el horario de autobús, hubo un cambio en el horario escolar para el Kinder. Todos los estudiantes de Kinder se quedarán hasta la 1:50 p.m. comenzando el primer día de escuela. Los estudiantes de Kinder comerán su almuerzo en la escuela comienzando el primer día. Este es un cambio nuevo para este año. Si usted tiene alguna pregunta en cuanto a este cambio de horario, por favor póngase en contacto con la oficina escolar.

Su primera oportunidad de aprender sobre los cambios emocionantes para el año escolar 09/10 sera el viernes, 21 de agosto a las 4:00 p.m.. Tendremos nuestro segundo evento Social anual “Lemonade Social”. Esta es una maravillosa oportunidad para ustedes y sus niños llegar a conocer a nuevas familias o ver a sus amigos de la comunidad escolar de Monta Loma y aprender sobre todas las cosas emocionantes planeadas para el nuevo año escolar. Además, los paquetes estarán disponibles que describen los nuevos cambios más detalladamente. Tendremos intérpretes en español. También es la oportunidad de llegar a conocer al maestro/maestra de sus niños para el nuevo año escolar. Las listas de clases serán disponibles durante este acontecimiento y luego se colocaran en las ventanas del cuarto de comunidad en frente de la escuela. Por favor sepa que el desarrollo de las clases fue un esfuerzo de colaboración entre director/maestro/padre, y tomando en consideracion el mejor interés de todos los estudiantes.

Junto con el personal de Monta Loma espero con ansias el nuevo año escolar de 2009-2010 y la oportunidad de trabajar con todos ustedes.
