What is PTA?    ¿Q es PTA?

The Monta Loma PTA serves as a forum where parents, teachers, administrators, and other concerned community members discuss ways to promote quality education, strive to expand the arts, encourage community involvement, and work for a healthy environment and safe neighborhoods. PTA is the nation’s oldest, largest and highest profile volunteer organization working on behalf of public schools, children and families. PTA volunteers work in their schools and communities to improve the education, health and welfare of all children and youth.

The Monta Loma PTA organizes several community and fundraising activities throughout the school year, including:

  • Lemonade Social (prior to the start of each school year)
  • Annual Walkathon
  • Movie Nights
  • Annual Food Drive (to support CSA)
  • Campus Beautification and Car Wash
  • Annual Used Book Sale
  • Box Top Collections
  • eScrip, Amazon, and other vendor giveback programs

Money raised through these events/programs and other fundraisers held throughout the year go directly to support activities for Monta Loma students including classroom field trips, classroom accounts for teachers to purchase needed items, and assemblies such as the Lawrence Hall of Science Assemblies in the fall and a performing Arts Assembly in the winter.  PTA sponsors after-school activities such as Chorus, Lego-Robotics, and Art Club.   Each year, the PTA makes a donation to the school library enabling the librarian to purchase new books.

We also aim to benefit students through no- or low-cost activities such as VIP Reading Day, in which community leaders and other volunteers come into the classrooms to read books aloud. The goal of the Annual Used Book Sale is to get very affordable books into the hands of every student in the school.  Books are subsidized for students who cannot afford to purchase them.

In addition to money for classroom accounts and field trips, the PTA supports the teachers and staff by hosting activities like Principal’s Coffee hours, Crossing Guard Appreciation Day and Staff Appreciation Week.

Monta Loma is a parent-participation school and the Monta Loma PTA strives to support and supplement that mission.  All parents and teachers and interested community members are encouraged to join the PTA as yet another way to support our wonderful school.  With so many events and activities organized and sponsored by the PTA each year, there are many parent volunteer opportunities that count toward the required school volunteer hours.  Volunteer opportunities span the range from chairing events to helping out for an hour at an event.  Attendance at PTA general meetings also counts toward volunteer hours, but incurs no obligation on the part of the parents. Please contact us using the link at the top right if you would like to become a member or volunteer in any way. We need your help to keep providing great support to our school, our students and our community!
