Core value of the month: Respect

PRINCIPAL’S MESSAGE

Dear Monta Loma Families,

Health Updates and Cancellations/Postponements

Thank you so very much for your positive cooperation as we adjust and respond to evolving health and safety needs. To summarize our current status, all field trips, assemblies, and school sponsored after school programs are cancelled or postponed through April 3rd. Privately provided after school programs may not use school facilities effective March 16th through April 3rd. In an abundance of caution, we are also cancelling classroom volunteers through April 3rd.

PTA NEWS

Used Book Sale

The Used Book Sale was a great success! 14 classrooms participated, each child was able to pick out up to 5 books, and the emphasis was on “reading for enjoyment.” When we enjoy what we read, we want to read more! The students were excited and enjoyed searching for different books they found interesting. Thank you to the many volunteers who helped set up, sort, and help the kids select books, and thank you to the teachers who coordinated with us. We couldn’t have done it without you!

VIP Reading Day

VIP reading day took place Friday, March 6 and was a wonderful experience.  It’s an annual event at Monta Loma where we invite members of our community to come and share their love of reading with the students. Each classroom has 1-2 readers come and visit for 15-30 minutes throughout the day. The readers talk a little about themselves and read a book to the students. This year the students received visits from members of the military, the MVPD including the Chief of Police, MVFD fire engine crew 53, the Mayor and Vice Mayor of Mountain View as well as current and former city council members, MVWSD board of trustee members, NASA employees, local authors, a librarian, and local business owners. It was a great day celebrating our diverse community, and how reading great books can connect us all.

PTA Events in March Cancelled

Direction from MVWSD is that non-essential meetings and events on campus are to be cancelled up until Spring Break due to the Coronavirus.  What that means for PTA is that Movie Night March 20 and our Association Meeting/Board Election/Principal's Coffee March 27 will be cancelled.  The Board Elections will take place at a later time.

While we take these measures to protect the health of all of our loved ones, particularly those among our community who are most vulnerable, we at PTA thank you for your flexibility and understanding.

NEWS FROM THE DISTRICT OFFICE

Make sure you’re counted! The U.S. Census is coming up

It’s crucial that we all participate, because an accurate count of residents is important for funding our community’s public resources, planning for the future, and for our voice in government. We all want to make sure that Mountain View gets the funding, services, and business support we need.

Here's how the Census works (video)

Responses are confidential and by law, your personal information cannot be shared. You can respond to the U.S. Census online or by mail. Look for your postcard this week. To learn more, visit 2020census.gov.
