Core value of the month: Respect

PRINCIPAL’S MESSAGE

Dear Monta Loma Families,

Thank You Volunteers!

We have great reason to be proud of the family engagement and volunteerism at Monta Loma. Our deepest appreciation goes to the volunteers who made VIP Reading Day and the Used Book Sale a smashing success this week. Special thanks go to Crystal Nanavati, Katie Purcell, Michelle Bessler, and Debbie Chin who spearheaded the events. You are the best!

The annual Used Book Sale put over 1000 books into the hands of our students. It was thrilling to see students browsing and talking with the volunteers about their favorite books and genres.

VIP Reading Day on Friday brought community members from NASA, Mountain View City Council, the Mountain View Public Library, MVWSD School Board, Police and Firefighters, the Humane Society, the 129th Air Rescue Wing, and so much more. All were pleased to share their love of reading.

More Volunteer Opportunities.

Events like VIP Reading Day and the Used Book Sale show students the power of literacy and strengthen their connections to caring adults. They are only possible with the support of volunteers just like you.

In the next few months, volunteers are needed for the following events. Any time or energy you can offer is greatly appreciated.

  • March 25-Spring Picture Day

  • April 5-Walk-a-thon

  • April 11-Open House/Science Fair/Art Show

  • May 3 PTA Movie Night

  • May 20- Fun Fitness Day

You can get more information at this Friday’s PTA meeting or in the office.

In partnership,

Gloria

NEWS FROM THE DISTRICT OFFICE

Please join us for a wonderful event next month as we celebrate the second annual MVPD Women’s Day event. It has been renamed to #SheCan to incorporate and include all who would like to participate, regardless of age.

Much like last year, the goal of this event is to encourage and inspire girls – middle and high school-age specifically – as well as young women to consider the possibility of a career in fields such as public safety and public service and all that these career have to offer.  We are thrilled to announce that the Mountain View Fire Department, the City of Mountain View, the 129th Rescue Wing, and Girls on the Run will be joining us this year.

Here are more of the event details
·         Date: Saturday, March 30th, 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.
·         Where: MVPD front lot, auditorium and foyer
·         Who: You, and your family!

To learn more about the ‘why’ behind this event, check out our mission statement!

We have a vision.  A vision as police officers, firefighters and government leaders to connect with women and girls as mentors, advocates and sponsors. Out of this vision came the slogan #SeeStrongBeStrong.  We believe that when young women and girls see what’s possible in any career they are encouraged, inspired and supported to strive to find their highest potential. We want all young women and girls to know that they can become anything they set their minds to.  Because they are stronger, smarter and more capable than they think, and WE HAVE THEIR BACK.

We believe that when we engage with young women and girls and tell our stories of perseverance and resilience we are planting seeds of the same kind for them.  We understand that when men stand up with women and girls, we are partners in equality and share the same dream of a better world.

We created this event to inspire, empower and embolden our female youth to see themselves as future leaders in public safety and public service.  #SheCan, sponsored by the Mountain View Police Department, will offer an inside look at the joy and purpose behind the work public servants do in the world.
