Core value of the month: Hard work

PRINCIPAL’S MESSAGE

Dear Monta Loma Families,

We want to hear from you! LCAP survey

The District is beginning its annual process of writing the LCAP (Local Control Accountability Plan). Your input from the survey will guide the development of our District’s three-year plan and inform the update of the District’s Strategic Plan. These documents are the blueprints that guide all of the District’s work for the benefit of our students.

The survey has been revised to include questions about school and District climate. We will be discussing the  LCAP/Strategic Plan process at our combined site council and ELAC meeting on February 25th and at our PTA Board Meeting on February 11th.

Parents, we want to hear from you: Please click below to give input through February 28 in a survey. (Using a laptop/desktop computer or a tablet is recommended. Formatting may not be as readable on mobile devices). If you would like a paper copy, please come to the office.

Volunteer Tutors Wanted (JustREAD/JustMATH Tutoring Program)

Would you like to contribute some time to improving the education of students at Monta Loma Elementary School? JustREAD/JustMATH tutoring program invites parents, grandparents, friends and neighbors to volunteer one hour a week during the school day to tutor students in reading and/or math. Each tutor is matched with one student to provide individual support. The tutor works with that same student each week throughout the school year.

Tutors work with students who will most benefit from individualized academic support.

Teaching experience is not required. All you need is a love for reading or math and a positive, caring attitude to help students develop self-confidence as they gain new skills.

To get more information about becoming a volunteer tutor with JustREAD/JustMATH, or to sign up for an orientation class, please visit our website: https://www.justreadcenters.org or contact JustREAD/JustMATH Volunteer Manager: [email protected].

PTA News

Please donate books for Used Book Sale

Please donate gently loved books appropriate for K-5 in the office between now and Monday, March 2nd. We are most in need of chapter books from grades 2-5, but all the books are welcome.

We are happy to report that we found our Book Hero!  Thanks to Vanessa Bernegger who will be leading the charge for our Used Book Sale.  Stay tuned for dates and sign-ups for volunteers to help sort the books before the sale and to help the kids pick out their books during the sale.

PTA Board Elections March 27

Please consider serving on the PTA Board for 2020-2021.  We are a friendly group who come from diverse experiences, opinions, and backgrounds who are unified in wanting to support our faculty and staff, enriching the lives and community of our kids and their families.

Please reach out to anyone of us to ask questions as you think about how you might like to become more involved. Some positions take more of a commitment than others, but all positions will give you a voice and an opportunity to impact what we do here at Monta Loma.

Feel free to contact us at [email protected] for more information.

InPlay.org

There are many opportunities in Mountain View for students to enrich their learning afterschool or during school breaks. With safety and consistency in mind, our school newsletter and website will advertise only District-, school- and PTA-sponsored events and activities. While we recognize that there are many providers of enrichment activities who use our campus, we may promote only those that follow specific MVWSD parameters for safety and supervision.

The District provides inplay.org as a resource to parents who are seeking additional learning opportunities for their students. To view student enrichment activities, school break and after school classes in our community that are not hosted by MVWSD, please see our partner, https://www.inplay.org/r/mountain-view/. MVWSD has not reviewed all programs/events found there and does not specifically endorse them. Parents should thoroughly research all activities before enrolling their children.
